Clear Pine Shaker Style Wall to Wall Built-In
14' L X 8' H

This project was a close collaboration with the client to create a Shaker Style built-in to match their antique cape-style house.

The built-in is loosely modeled after the "New Attic" in the Dwelling House in the Shaker Canterbury Village in Canterbury, NH, built in 1837.

The built-in is made out of clear pine and consists of fifteen dovetailed drawers, four cabinet doors, two full size interior doors and a paneled closet. Traditional mortised hinges are used on the doors along with antique thumb latch hardware and brass turnbuckles.

The center doors house a 50" TV, the two flanking cabinets provide shelving for stereo equipment and books.

Fitting the left door trim panel, the left side is carefully scribed to the wall that tilts out of plumb almost 2" over eight feet. Fitting the right door trim panel. Likewise this wall is out of plumb by almost 3". Notice how the trim tapers to fit the wall.
Sighting down 14' of floor to ceiling built-in cabinetry. In keeping with Shaker design, all doors and drawers are on the same plane with only the bullnose profile of the shelf protruding.

Broom closet is paneled with beaded pine boards and has three adjustable shelves The dovetailed drawers are hand fit with no drawer slides Another shot showing the door flush with the trim, drawers and cabinet doors

The center left door has a sliding bolt with the receiving plate mortised into the shelf to lock it shut Each cabinet door has a turnbuckle latch to keep the door closed
